Sophie was passionate about science and encouraging fellow students in research. We remember her particularly on this day and hope that in the future her charity can help women achieve their full potential in science.

Sophie Cycle 2018

The second annual team cycle from Sophie’s home to her University. We’ll ride together, in Sophie’s memory, and have a great day out. Check out how we got on last year.

Date: Saturday 2nd June 2018

Two options:
1) The full 94-mile Melbourne to Cambridge route, for those who enjoy spending 10 hours on a bike
2) A condensed 15-mile St. Ives (Cambridgeshire) to Cambridge, along a nice cycle route, for those who want to get involved but avoid the bum pain. Meet the main group around 5pm in St Ives.

Anthony Nolan & London Lions

On Friday 3rd November 2017, James and Lucy represented Sophie’s Research supporting Anthony Nolan at a London Lions basketball game at the Copper Box Arena in the Olympic Park.

James and Lucy raised awareness for Anthony Nolan and helped spectators join the life-saving stem cell register. The London Lions team captain championed the cause by signing up to the register himself, and the commentator gave Anthony Nolan a shout-out at half time.
Anthony Nolan was invited to the event by another charity, Risen, which promotes mental health in the black community. It was an excellent opportunity to increase BAME (Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic) representation on the register, which is an acute area of concern.
The match was a particularly poignant event, as Sophie was an excellent and enthusiastic basketball player.

Humber Coastal Half Marathon 2017

Soph was born in 1990 and initially lived in Cleethorpes on Humberside. These were the years of endless trips and adventures with her great friends Amber and Alice.

I recognize that I am an old git now, however on 3rd September 2017 it was time to pretend to be young again and run the Humber Coastal Half Marathon in memory of Soph whilst raising awareness and funds for Anthony Nolan.

Amber had kindly offered me a chance to enter the run and join the Anthony Nolan team with Donna, Jo and Yasmin. I realised that I was in tough company with the sub two hour girls, but the weather was very kind to us and we all made it back in one piece. Thanks to Donna for hosting us, and all the team for making me feel incredibly welcome whilst teaching me a thing or two about running ….

Antonia’s Marathon

On the 23rd of April 2017, Antonia ran the London marathon in memory of Sophie and in support of Anthony Nolan.

Antonia completed the marathon in an incredible 3:43, and raised over £2,000 for Anthony Nolan. You can find her donations page here.

Sophie Cycle 2017

On Sunday 4th of June, 12 of us cycled from Melbourne (Derbyshire) to Cambridge in memory of Sophie. We raised money and awareness for Anthony Nolan’s stem cell register, which saves the lives of patients with blood cancers.

James Robinson:

“94 miles (plus some unexpected detours!) was an incredible achievement for the team, some of whom had never really sat on a saddle before, with bikes of all shapes and speeds.

“If you haven’t already signed up to the Anthony Nolan register, then there is no quicker and easier way for you to become a potential life saver….https://www.anthonynolan.org/8-ways-you-could-save-life/

“And, if you fancy donating to the Anthony Nolan, it’ll make all those sore bums worth it…
