On Friday 3rd November 2017, James and Lucy represented Sophie’s Research supporting Anthony Nolan at a London Lions basketball game at the Copper Box Arena in the Olympic Park.
James and Lucy raised awareness for Anthony Nolan and helped spectators join the life-saving stem cell register. The London Lions team captain championed the cause by signing up to the register himself, and the commentator gave Anthony Nolan a shout-out at half time.
Anthony Nolan was invited to the event by another charity, Risen, which promotes mental health in the black community. It was an excellent opportunity to increase BAME (Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic) representation on the register, which is an acute area of concern.
The match was a particularly poignant event, as Sophie was an excellent and enthusiastic basketball player.
